Holiday Gift Giving
This year we are asking students to give a home-made gift that they have participated in the making thereof. The cost of materials is to be not more than $3, due to the bad economy. This cost does not include items you already have (maybe you already have the paints, crochet hooks, thread, or some beads left over from a previous craft). All gifts are to be labeled "To a Boy" if you have a son or "To a Girl" if you have a daughter and are to be delivered by Dec. 16th (excepting food gifts which may be delivered on Dec. 18th)
In the past, some of the gifts given were:
-homemade wallet made of Carhart material
-snow globe made from a round jar with a snow scene, water, glycerine and glitter
-a CD burned with favorite holiday music
-cookies baked and delivered in a festive contianer
-homemade ornaments of varying materials
-hand-painted ornaments
-beaded jewelry
-made from craft beads
Let your imagination and your child's talents guide you. Each year, I am so excited by the enormous level of talent and creativity in CDR families in the wonderful gifts they make. For inspiration, I suggest Walmart's craft section, Hobby Lobby (there is one in Brannon Crossing), or Michaels (in Lexington).
Other ideas include:
brownie or cookie mixes in a decorative jar with the directions and wet ingredients list attached
sewn, knitted, or crocheted items
hand-painted items
Science
We are continuing our unit, "Objects in the Sky". Throughout this unit, students will be learning about the movement of the Sun-Earth-Moon system. Below are the I can statements students are responsible for learning.
Objects in the Sky “I Can” Statements
1. I can define rotation and revolution.
2. I can explain how earth’s rotation causes day and night.
3. I can explain how earth’s revolution and the tilt of earth’s axis causes the seasons to change.
4. I can explain why shadows change throughout the day.
5. I can illustrate the phases of the moon throughout the cycle.
6. I can explain why the moon appears to change shape.
Welcome to 4th Grade!
I'm looking forward to another great year with my students. Please check the website for assignments and vocabulary words each week. I do not generally post definitions with my vocabulary words on the website because I feel it is important for students to learn to use the resources in the textbook. Below you will find the online version of the textbook. This is a great resource for students to use when completing homework or studying for a test. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help your child be more successful.
Wish List Items
If you can, please purchase one or more of the following additional supplies for our classroom.
- Paper Towels
- Clorox Wipes
- 24 packs of crayons
- Dry Erase Markers
